How to Be Unhealthy

So you’re tired of hearing everyone talking about setting goals like losing weight, saving money, exercising more, learning a new language or hobby, decluttering, cooking more at home, improving relationships, becoming healthier, etc. Does that “get on your last nerve” as an old family friend used to say? Would you rather just work hard at being unhealthy? If so, here are some ways to do that:

  1. Don’t set any new goals in life. Just keep on doing the same old things and getting the same old results.
  2. Don’t get up early so you have time to relaxingly get ready for work, school, your day, or to get your kids up. You want to squeeze in as much time as you can sleeping and hit the snooze button so you and your family are running late and to set a grouchy mood for the day.
  3. Continue eating like you have been. Skip breakfast daily and grab a donut in the office kitchen or better yet, buy a candy bar from the vending machine to munch on and a soda to sip on at your desk. And don’t bring your lunch from home. Instead go out to eat with the gang so you can spend more money eating what you like – doesn’t matter if it’s healthy or not.
  4. When you get home from work, don’t ever go for a walk or to the gym. Just drop on the couch and binge watch Netflix or your favorite show every night.
  5. Don’t go to the grocery on a regular basis and cook at home. Instead drive through fast food restaurants every night so you can spend even more money getting food that has no nutrients and plugs up your arteries.
  6. Don’t work on a new hobby or learning anything new. You are who you are, right, and you’re not going to change or improve your mind. No one can make you do that!
  7. Don’t save money for retirement or emergencies, not even $5 or $10 a week, because you can spend that money on necessary items like candy bars or daily expensive coffee, right!
  8. Don’t develop a spiritual habit because you don’t need that stuff. You’re a grown up and that stuff is just for kids or “needy” people. You want to just focus on the here-and-now, none of that future or “what if” kind of talk.
  9. Don’t work on stress management techniques like gentle walking, journaling, listening to music, unplugging, or deep breathing because all that is just plain silly! That’s just “hippie” language. Stress is what you live for – the continuous adrenal rush and elevated cortisol is good for your body and mind, correct?
  10. And don’t go to bed at a decent hour. You’re an adult. You can do what you want even if that means staying up late surfing the internet uselessly so you’re exhausted in the morning just to begin the rat race again.

So if you want to maintain the status quo with your health, relationships, career, or life in general, just keep doing what you’ve been doing. Congrats, you’ve accomplished — what?
