Since November is here, the holiday eating (and binging) begins, right? While I do love the holidays, celebrating my faith, traditions, spending time with family and friends, and all the delicious food…. But uh oh, there’s all that delicious food that can wreak havoc on my healthy eating plan. If you have been a sugar lover like I’ve been (or currently are) and/or have autoimmune issues like I do, you know that eating sugary foods, high carbs, and gluten do not help your health. And during the holidays with all the food around, the sugar monster comes knocking at my door. So what can you do other than hide under your bed or put duct tape on your fridge?
Here are 3 tips to help you eat healthy!
1. Prepare healthy alternatives. When you are hosting a party, prepare some healthier versions of favorites like casseroles, dips, or even desserts made with gluten free flours and little to no refined sugars. You can still have other processed foods that are family favorites but offer alternatives for those on special diets.
2. If you are attending a party, don’t arrive when you’re starving. Eat a small healthy snack beforehand including a protein like nuts or a turkey roll, maybe 1/2 avocado, a boiled egg, and some fruit. Just enough to keep the Hangry monster away.
3. It is okay to allow yourself a treat now and then. But, it’s a treat – not an excuse for you to binge and eat the whole pie. Decide what you’re going to eat before you get to the party and stick to your goals. And what if you do eat too much at the party? Should you allow yourself the guilt and anguish for days? No.
Start eating healthy tomorrow and get rid of the leftovers or the tempting foods.
