Does this ever happen to you? You feel like life will always be the same, you’ll never be able to change, you’ll never feel better, lose that weight, get your hormones figured out, decrease your brain fog, bloating, or pain? And you just want to quit?
If so, you’re not alone. I’ve been there and so have many of my clients. Did you know the second Friday of January is National Quitter’s Day? Why? Because many people quit their New Year’s resolutions or goals by that day. Why so soon?
Their goals were probably:
Unrealistic
Too big
Too hard or intense
Example – you decide you’re going to lose 40 pounds in one month! Unrealistic for a month, but not in a year. Another example – you decide you’re going to give up soft drinks by tomorrow (when all you’ve been drinking are soft drinks. That is doable but not by tomorrow. You really have to
And good news, I know a way to make your goals easier to attain so you’re not overwhelmed so much that you quit! What is it?
You make your goals SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and with a timeframe or deadline. This means you basically shorten your actual action plans into small or baby steps. When building a house, your contractor doesn’t just write on a piece of paper, “build house.” He breaks it down into many small steps. You can’t build a foundation before an architect develops the plans and then workers dig to place sewage lines and other things. There’s a process so your house will be built correctly, right?
It’s just the same when you are building a foundation of changes to your health.
You’ve got to start with the first step. Not jump to the last one. So what can you do?
Well, you could hire me to help. That’s one thing I do as a health and wellness coach with clients.
Or you can re-write your goals into a SMART format yourself. Just make them small enough so you won’t get overwhelmed and frustrated so much that you give up.
One easy step you could make is to join my FREE 5-day Nourish to Flourish with H20 Challenge. We are starting Feb. 2 and finish on Feb. 6, 2025. We will have daily small steps just to help you simply drink more water. In this challenge, though, I’ll also be showing you how to take a bigger goal and break it into small steps using some special strategies to make them easier and more manageable.
